Delores: the wife
Marvin: the husband
Esperanza: an older Spanish-speaking maid

About the Show:
It all started when Delores, an unhappy housewife, and George, a shoe salesman, met at Shoe Fantasy and it was love at first shoe-fitting. The only thing standing in the way was Delores' doting but half-witted husband, Marvin, who would never agree to a divorce. So, there was only one thing left to do—kill Marvin so they can run off together and live a carefree life of passion and romance in a tropical paradise. The lovers come up with a crazy plan to poison Marvin over dinner.

Delores invites George to dinner and introduces him to Marvin as a new friend. While Marvin checks on dessert, they slip poison into his wine. But things get out of hand when Marvin doesn't fall for the bait. What was supposed to be a simple foolproof murder turns into a hilarious fiasco when Esperanza, the eccentric Spanish-speaking maid, arrives on the wrong day and she, too, falls for George. Now George and Delores must devise a way to get rid of the lovesick Esperanza and carry out their plan to kill Marvin—that is without killing each other first!

Cast of Characters:
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (Bill): seems to act more like a child than the genius who penned some of the world’s greatest works of theatrical art.

CONSTANTINE STANISLAVSKY (Stan): The Russian scholar. Bill’s great friend.

SARAH BERNHARDT (Sarah): The greatest actress the stage has ever known.

ENSEMBLE MEMBER: Plays Stage Manager / House Manager / Playwright / Producer / Sound Designer / Light Designer / Set Designer / Costume Designer / Director / Stagehand

About the Show:
It’s opening night, and master playwright William Shakespeare, theatrical diva Sarah Bernhardt and the indelible intellectual Constantine Stanislavsky lead you on a wild and wacky journey through the history of theatre from Aristophanes to Emile Zola.

This crazy cast of characters will transport you back in time as we relive the various elements of theatre from all parts of the globe. Explore the beginnings of Greek theatre, Aristotle’s Poetics, the fine art of Kabuki, the history of mime, the gladiators of Rome and speculation on the real author of Shakespeare’s plays.

Along the way, the bumbling Shakespeare misquotes himself, Sarah Bernhardt can’t get over the sound of thunderous applause and Stanislavsky gets blown out of a cannon when someone says the name of “the Scottish play” in the theatre!

Through a little perseverance and commedia dell’arte, the famous trifecta attempt to hold the show together, but when the producer appears onstage, things only get worse when the cast finds out they are trapped in a play within a play.

With time running out on the theatre’s rental agreement, the trifecta pays homage to the world’s best-known and beloved plays and musicals by alluding to dialogue from Edward Albee, Bertolt Brecht, Samuel Beckett, Noël Coward, Anton Chekhov, Caryl Churchill, Henrik Ibsen, Arthur Miller, David Mamet, Harold Pinter, Sarah Ruhl, Sam Shepard, Neil Simon, August Strindberg, August Wilson, Thornton Wilder, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Oscar Wilde and many more all performed at breakneck speed.

Near the play’s end, the cast realizes that the playwright hasn’t written an ending, wherein our iconic celebrities are forced to seek the audience’s help in finding a creative conclusion to the show.

More about the show:
Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…

Auditions will be held at the theater located at 133 Main Street, Oakville.

This is an open audition process.  Sides will be provided for readings, no monologues are required.  We are seeking 3 men and 5 women for this production.  The rehearsal schedule will be Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings.
Sweet-natured Lotty Wilton is suffering depression from the bleak London winter and from an oppressive relationship with her pompous solicitor husband.  When she sees an advertisement in the paper to rent a castle in Italy for the month of April, an idyllic spot "for those who appreciate wisteria and sunshine," she jumps at the chance to escape her downtrodden existence.  Sensing an instant kinship with fellow housewife, Rose Arnott, a severely angelic woman with sorrows of her own, Lotty persuades her along on the adventure.

Seeking to reduce the costs the two ladies find Caroline Bramble, a beautiful and exhausted socialite, and Mrs. Graves, an overbearing widow, to round out the party.  As the month passes, verdant sun-drenched San Salvatore works it magic on each sad and hardened heart, healing grief and bringing hope.  And with the arrival of two chastened husbands and one attractive young artist, romance blooms again.

Matthew Barber's Enchanted April, based on Elizabeth Von Arnim's beloved novel of the 1920s is a gentle and romantic comedy of manners.  Against the backdrop of a country still reeling from World War I, Enchanted April offers to its characters, and viewers, a necessary balm of sunshine and renewal.

NEW AUDITION DATE ANNOUNCED
(Replaces the December 17th Audition which was cancelled due to inclement weather)
Monday, December 30, 2019 from 7:00-9:00pm

Auditions will be held at the theater located at 133 Main Street, Oakville.

This is an open audition process.  Sides will be provided for readings, no momologues are requried.  We are seeking 1 man and 3 women to fill out the cast of returning actors who performed in the prequel to this production (Drinking Habits) in 2011.

We will be auditioning for the roles of George (handyman), Sally (a reporter), Kate (once a novice) and Sister Philamena (a nun).

The Sisters of Perpetual Sewing miss the excitement of the old days when they were saving convents and reuniting long-lost families. So, when they learn that the orphanage where Paul and Kate grew up is in peril, they can't wait to come to the rescue. Everyone pitches in to mount a play to raise money, but it's no easy feat when Kate's expecting any day, Sally's hiding from stage-fright-stricken Paul after another flight from the altar, Mother Superior's acting is unexpectedly narcoleptic, and the sisters' award-winning wine keeps getting switched with the grape juice. The merry mix-ups multiply in this warm and winsome sequel to Drinking Habits.

The rehearsal schedule will be Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning in January 2020.  For more information, call 860-417-2505 or email info@phoenixstagecompany.org

ABOUT THE SHOW
The world's most unusual criminologist, Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau—a role originally created by Peter Sellers—fights for his life and for the future of all mankind in the most bizarre and dangerous caper of his brilliantly successful and utterly clumsy career. Paul Dreyfus, once his long-suffering boss, now turned into a raving lunatic, holds the world at bay with the ultimate weapon, the Doomsday Machine. Dreyfus is out to get Clouseau, the man whose undeserved success has driven him crazy, and he threatens to vaporize continents if the nations of the world don't deliver Clouseau to him—alive or, if at all possible, dead! Blissfully unaware that the army of deadly assassins is gunning for him, or that the beautiful girl who seeks him out is a Russian agent, Clouseau incredibly stumbles and slips by every attack. However, the world is running out of time because the increasingly frustrated Dreyfus, doodling with the Doomsday Machine, is running out of patience

ABOUT THE SHOW
The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on their underlying strength.
