This winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize originally starred Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronin in their most famous roles. Weller Martin is playing a game of solitaire on the porch of a seedy nursing home. Enter Fonsia Dorsey, a new comer, prim, self-righteous, but alone and confused. Weller tempts her into playing a relaxing game of Gin and as the game progresses, each reveals intimate details of why they dislike the home and more importantly, what got them there. The game quickly becomes a metaphor for their lives and as each game progresses, tempers flare until a most unexpected climax puts both at odds with each other, their pasts and themselves.
