IN THE NEWS: Phoenix Stage Company brings home five awards from NERF 2019
PHOENIX STAGE COMPANY of Oakville participated in the 2019 NEW ENGLAND REGIONAL FESTIVAL on March 9, 2019. The competition was presented by the Connecticut Community Theater Association (CCTA) and hosted the Warner Theater in the Nancy Marine Studio Theater.
PHOENIX STAGE COMPANY presented “One Night with Fanny Brice” featuring Mary J. Cantoni Johnson with music director TJ Thompson and director Sharon W. Houk. This original musical was originally mounted by PSC in 2011 and again in 2015 after an extended Off-Broadway run and tour. The production did very well in the regional competition and took home five awards. "One Night With Fanny Brice" received awards for Outstanding Achievement in a Leading Role (Mary J. Cantoni Johnson), Outstanding Lighting Design (Sharon W. Houk), Outstanding Set Design (Sharon W. Houk), Outstanding Costume Design (Renee C. Purdy) and a special judges award for Outstanding Instrumental Performance for accompanist Dan Ringuette. The NERF is hosted every other year in cooperation with the American Association of Community Theater (AACT). Community theatre companies from Region 1 (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine) that have competed in their local state festival and were selected by adjudicators to represent their state were present for this cycle. LEXINGTON PLAYERS' production of "Who Will Sing for Lena" was selected by adjudicators to represent New England (Region 1) at the National AACTFest19 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in June 2019.
