VARNEY THE VAMPIRE or the Feast of Blood is presented by arrangement 
with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.

SYNOPSIS OF SCENES

ACT I
Scene 1: The Haunted Grotto. Midnight.
Scene 2: The Inn. Shortly thereafter. 
Scene 3: The next morning.
Scene 4: The Haunted Grotto. Night.
Scene 5: The Inn. Later.
ACT II
Scene 1: The Inn. Next day.
Scene 2:  Evening.
Scene 3:  The Haunted Grotto
Scene 4:  Back at the Inn. Early morning.
 In 1900, weary vampire Sir Francis Varney shows up at an inn in Italy. He plans to visit a haunted grotto and ask forgiveness from a lost love whose ghost is doomed to roam the landscape. Varney forgets his mission and proceeds to snarl and snap at everyone in sight, especially an English damsel. Varney is shot, stabbed with a wooden stake, and hanged. Still, he survives! The action continues as Inspector Balsadella seeks answers for the strange goings on

CAROLINE AHLMAN (Jenny Dearborne) returns to the Phoenix stage after appearing in THE REVOULTIONISTS as Charlotte Corday. Other stage credits include THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE (Logainne Schwartziandgrubenierre) with Warner Theatre PLAB, MOTHERHOOD (Joanne) with Warner Theater and THE CURIOUS SAVAGE (Ethel Savage) & SHE KILLS MONSTERS (Tilly Evans) both with Torrington High School. This is my first production at Phoenix Stage Company, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to tell this incredible story. All my love and thanks go to my wonderful parents, who inspire me to do what I love every day. A special shout out to the cast and crew of Varney the Vampire, in them I have found true camaraderie and endless laughs.

MISSY COWAN (Signora Bell) Makes her Phoenix Stage debut in this production. Stage credits include RUMORS (Chris), THE REAL PROBLEM (Juliet) and SHIVERING SANTA (Merry Mistletoe) with CTAW. SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS (Beatrice) and SAGA OF THE PROSPECTOR’S DAUGHTER (Miss Clydesdale) with Washington Dramatists. During this time of year, for the past four years, you could have found me in the dark of night in a cemetery (freezing my butt off) portraying a ghostly soul. This year I am grateful to be warm and toasty for a chance, with this indoctrination to PSC. This has been a fantastic experience working with this talented cast and crew. Thank you to Tim and Ed for casting me and thanks to my dog “the nut” for running lines with me.

TIM PHILLIPS (Director) – most recently
appeared in KILL ME, DEADLY and he has
appeared on stage and backstage in over two dozen Phoenix productions.
Favorite roles include Henry Lowenthal in
CLIFFHANGER; Dr. Benjamin Franklin in 1776, and Man in Chair in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. During the pandemic, Tim co-hosted the live
podcast, “Take Flight Live with Phoenix Stage Company” with Ed Bassett. Special thanks, as always, to Laurie and Dash for putting up with my craziness. Thanks also to my amazing cast who went along for the ride. To my family (Jen, Fran, & Stephen) who keep me laughing. And especially, thanks to my personal comedy heroes who influenced my comical direction - Stan Freberg, Mel Brooks, George Carlin, and Ed Bassett.  I hope this show makes tickles your Halloween funny bone!
Shanelle Dupre (Stage Manager) was most recently seen on stage in our production of DRINKING HABITS 2.  Stage credits include TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (Mrs. Dubose), THE MIRACLE WORKER (Viney) and A CHRISTMAS STORY (ensemble) with Landmark Community Theater.
